Qibla Finder Camera: Find the Qibla Through Your Phone Camera

A qibla finder camera view shows the Qibla direction on top of your live camera picture. Instead of reading a dial, you turn until a line or Kaaba marker sits straight ahead in the room. Google Qibla Finder is the best-known example, painting a blue line towards the Kaaba on Android phones.

The camera makes the direction easier to see, but it does not make it more accurate. This page explains why, how to use camera mode on Android and iPhone, and when a map is the better choice. For a quick reading without the camera, open our free qibla finder.

How a Qibla Finder With Camera Works

The tool first reads your GPS position and calculates the great circle bearing to the Kaaba in Makkah. It then uses the phone’s sensors to work out which way the camera is facing at every moment. Where the two directions meet, it draws the line or marker over the live picture.

The camera never detects the Kaaba or recognizes anything in the room. It only supplies the background, while the direction still comes from the magnetometer, the phone’s compass sensor. Google’s own help page says it’s Qibla. The finder works with your device’s compass and should be calibrated first.

How to Use a Qibla Finder Camera on Android and iPhone

On Android, open Google Qibla Finder in Chrome, allow location and camera, and hold the phone upright. Turn slowly until the Kaaba icon is centered and the blue line runs straight ahead. A toggle in the top corner switches the camera off if the room is dark.

On iPhone, Google Qibla Finder does not show the camera picture, so you get the direction from the compass alone. Some App Store apps offer an AR view, but check the developer and permissions first. Our Qibla finder app guide explains what to look for.

Is a Qibla Finder Camera More Accurate?

No, because the camera view and a normal compass rely on the same sensor. If a steel desk or magnetic phone case pushes the compass five degrees off, the blue line moves five degrees too. The live picture can even make a wrong reading feel more convincing.

Calibrate by moving the phone in a figure of eight before you trust any qibla finder camera. Indoors, a Qibla direction map is often safer because it ignores the compass completely. Our Qibla compass guide covers calibration on both Android and iPhone.

Questions

Qibla Finder Camera FAQs

How do I find the Qibla with my phone camera?

Open Google Qibla Finder on an Android phone and allow location and camera. Hold the phone upright and turn until the Kaaba icon is centered. Calibrate the compass first for a reliable result.

Why is my Qibla Finder camera showing the wrong direction?

Nearby metal, electronics, or a magnetic case are the usual causes. Move away from them and calibrate with a figure of eight. If it still looks wrong, use a map instead.

Does the camera view work on iPhone?

Google’s camera view works on Android only. iPhone users get the same direction from the compass. Some third-party apps add AR on iPhone, and our Qibla compass city index list covers the no-phone option.

Does a camera Qibla finder save my pictures?

Google states its tool never stores camera images and uses them live only. Third-party apps set their own rules, so read the privacy section first. You can remove camera access anytime in settings.

Can I use a Qibla finder camera in the dark?

The camera picture will be dark, but the direction still comes from the compass. Google lets you switch the camera off and keep the compass view. A map or compass is easier to follow at night.
